I love this, Charlotte. Being a parent is wild. My little one is only 14 months but he got very upset with me this morning because he wanted to drink water out of his water bottle rather than his cup. Gave him the water bottle and he was trying to drink through the closed lid and getting very upset about it. I asked “shall mummy help” - response was “yes” with an emphatic nod. So I reach over and lift up the straw spout bit so he could actually get some water. Cue complete meltdown and lots of “noooooo”.

We repeated this about 3 times before he got distracted by something else.

Kids are weird. 🙃

(Also, I didn’t realise you were in Cheshire! I’m in Stockport. Hi! 👋)

Haha, kids ARE weird, how DARE you be so helpful.

Not far away at all! I've never been to Stockport, is it a nice part of the world for a day trip would you say?

Hahaha… putting socks on baby’s cold feet. Who knew? My days are very much like this right now, except with two and not three (although lately I’ve been noticing some minor yearning for a third. Am I ok?!) Also, living on the west coast of Canada, I relate completely to the sudden and dramatic onset of sunshine after a long, wet, cold winter. You’re doing great, mama. Thanks for this funny and well done post :)

Thank you, you're doing great too! I was mortified about the socks, but am also very stubborn so made my husband sit in the waiting room with me for nearly 2 hours while we were pushed further and further down a list to see the next doctor for sign off. In the end a nurse confirmed that while she couldn't tell us to go home she herself would probably go home in our situation, and we left, haha

I am the WRONG person to talk to if you're on the fence about having a third, I love having three even though it's really hard at times, so might accidentally talk you into it 😂

How is this gem the result of writers block???

I had a foster cat that opened and slammed a cupboard door at night—all night—and when I asked her to please stop, she responded with, WHYYYYYYYY????? And I would answer her. And she would ask, WHYYYYYY and on it went. Honestly you’d think I would be more prepared for motherhood thanks to her.

My writers block usually comes when I try to write anything longer than a couple of sentences, so I find these shorter stories help to get things moving!

Why are cats so ridiculous 😂

The cat bit…. Crying! 😂😂😂 I’m with you in this summer holiday delirium… I’m actually having quite a nice time too in small moments!! I figure it will be ‘character building’ whatever happens!!!

Definitely building character another two weeks in, I hope you're surviving too!

Hard relate esp on trips to urgent care.

They always say though they rather that way; that you see them and it’s nothing rather than you don’t and it is something.

Thank you, I'd always rather take them and feel silly than not take them. We had a 'this is silly' moment when I took Peach in for a mild temperature when she was tiny, and then she ended up on oxygen for two days, so you just don't know do you!

I love these episodes!

And man, yeah, following their lead does take a tremendous amount of pressure off, doesn't it? I love a color-coded activity sheet but kids have their own anti-agendas to adhere to.

Thank you so much.

They really do have their own ideas. I got in my own head this morning about not having an all singing all dancing schedule, so I told them I was taking them on a fun morning out and they both got upset because they didn't want to go. Guess I'll stick to doing the laundry while they run around in their superhero costumes, then 😂

Blood and guts 🤣

I really resonate with "The joy of a successful burp".

This was the best thing I've read in a bit. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this comment, Eva, the e-mail part of Substack sometimes concerns me as I worry about annoying people by popping up in their inbox, so I needed this!

You are a champion! Que sera sera days are the best, especially when sprinkled with a little planning. Gotta tell you though, once you have bigger little people, you will still want to carry a suitcase full of snacks, just in case! (Pun not intended, but funny!) 💜

Thank you, Martha. Hope your baby is coping OK with teething, it's so rough on them (and on us, let's be honest!)

Everything about this is so relatable! 🧡

Meningitis watch is real 😖

I can't watch any movies or TV shows since becoming a parent. Everything is too sad or too dramatic or too stupid. Gardener's world is where it's at for me.

I struggle with books since I became a parent, I feel so annoyed if I read something and it doesn't blow me away, always end on a note of 'I had very little time and I spent it on THAT!?' 😂

You can apply the same to people or unnecessary advice. I don't have time for this bs! 🤪

Omg the perfect combination of hilarious and heart wrenching (those quotes 💔❤️‍🩹), much like every day as a mother then. Sending you love on the onward summer holiday path xx
